Ship hull cleaning and diving survey

What is hull cleaning for a ship?

Cleaning the hull of a ship is the process of removing corrosion products, old paintwork, fouling by algae and marine organisms from the hull of a ship what is carried out afloat (under water) and in stead of the docked drying.

How often are ship hulls cleaned?

Most ship owners clean their hulls yearly or every two years. Some vessel owners might wait to clean their hulls every three years or longer — but this time frame may be too long to avoid biofouling to clinging to the hull's surface to damage for the hull.

Why is hull cleaning required?

The purpose of underwater hull cleaning is to remove biological roughness or fouling. A build-up of marine fouling can lead to increased drag, resulting in a detrimental impact on a vessel's hydrodynamic performance and hence the relationship between speed, power performance and fuel consumption.

Benefits of Hull Cleaning with HST

A cost effective anti-fouling initiative.

Reduces drag increasing fuel efficiency.

Promotes less wear and tear on ships engines.

Extends life of anti-fouling paints.

Reduces periods of programmed dry-docking.

Environmentally user friendly.

How do ship hulls not rust?

Have you ever noticed any blocks of metal hanging from the hull of a ship? Those are anodes. They protect the ship from corrosion or rust

What is a dirty hull on a ship?

Hull scum, also known as hull fouling or boat scum, refers to the accumulation of marine organisms, algae, slime, and other debris on the hull of a boat or watercraft. It is a common issue that occurs when boats are left in the water for extended periods without regular cleaning or maintenance.

What causes hull fouling?

Hull fouling is a well-known problem affecting vessels trading in warm water ports and is the result of marine growth on the hull. It can lead to diminished vessel performance as well as additional costs and time lost cleaning the hull.
